Scorpius was happy to see the owl post arriving as soon as the students sat down at their tables for breakfast. His owl brought him a copy of the Daily Prophet and he really enjoyed skimming through the articles while munching on his toast. But the headline of the day made his toast fall from his hands into his pumpkin juice goblet. There, in big, bold letters was the most shocking headline he had ever read.

THE BOY WHO LIVED IS DEAD

It couldn't be. It was impossible that Harry Potter, the hero of the war, the Auror, his boyfriend's father was dead. He went on to read more.

"Harry Potter, the wizard who defeated Lord Voldemort, was found dead in his office in the Ministry of Magic. Early investigations show that he was poisoned, but ministry officials refuse to make any statement until further investigation. Percy Weasley, the Minister for Magic-"

Scorpius threw the newspaper on the table and got up from the table. He had to find Albus as soon as possible. He ran towards the Gryffindor tower, jumping on the stairs three steps at a time, yelled the password at a grief-stricken Fat Lady and entered the common room. The scene he encountered was one he hoped he'd never have to see. James looked devastated, but kept his composure as he held his younger sister, who was sobbing in his arms. The rest of the Gryffindors stood there with grim faces, none of them believing what had happened, all too afraid to do or say something.

"Scorpius!" James exclaimed with relief at the sight of the Slytherin boy.

"Where's Albus?" Scorpius asked automatically, realizing afterwards that he might have been a bit insensitive.

"I don't know. You have to find him, Scorpius. Mother is coming over to take us home and he disappeared!"

"Of course. I'll find him." He replied and with one last look at James and Lily, he said softly. "I'm really sorry."

"I know." James nodded as he stroked Lily's hair. "Go find him. He needs you."

Scorpius didn't need telling twice as he sprinted from the common room towards the most probable location of Albus. And indeed, upon arriving on top of the Astronomy tower, he saw a figure curled up on the floor. He approached him and sat down next to him, putting an arm around his back and rubbing soothingly. Albus stayed still, as if he hadn't even noticed Scorpius's arrival.

"I'm sorry." He whispered.

Albus stared ahead, unblinkingly, as if he were transfixed.

"He defeated Voldemort." He croaked after a few minutes of silence. "He is not dead."

"Albus…"

"He's not dead, Scorpius! Those people at The Daily Prophet are talking shit! HE IS NOT DEAD!" He yelled and stood up, turning his back to the other boy.

"Albus…"

"It's all a bad joke! My dad is not dead!" He chanted.

"Albus!" Scorpius raised his voice and grabbed him by the shoulders. This seemed to have brought Albus back to reality, because he looked down and started blinking furiously. He tried to shield his face away from Scorpius, then rubbed angrily at his eyes.

"Hey." Scorpius said softly, lifting Albus's chin. "It's okay to cry." Albus tried to resist for a couple more moments, until he broke down. He fell to the ground, tears streaming down his face. Scorpius sat down next to him and took him in his arms, holding him closely.

"My dad's dead." Albus cried, his chest heaving with his sobs. "He's dead, Scorpius, dead…"

They sat like that for a while, Albus crying until he had soaked Scorpius's robes. It must have been a long while, as the sun was already high in the sky, a day too beautiful for the tragic event that had just happened. It wasn't supposed to be this way. The day Harry Potter died was supposed to be rainy and dark, the nature, just like the rest of the world, mourning the loss of one of the bravest wizards in history.

And then Scorpius remembered what James had told him.

"Come on now, Al. Your mother is coming to take you home." He said to the limp body in his arms. Albus looked as if he hadn't heard him, but then he lifted his face and, for the first time that day, looked directly into Scorpius's face, a look of fear on his face.

"You'll come too, won't you?"

He honestly wasn't planning to go, as he hated funerals more than anything, but the look on his boyfriend's face broke his heart. He couldn't just leave him alone with the grief and the sorrow.

"Of course I will."
